SEO - common mistakes or where we go wrong in our quest to conquer the first page of Google.
We've all read the story - it starts back in 1998 when two Stanford students - Larry Page и Sergey Brin create their search engine. They are trying to come up with an efficient algorithm (search machine) of web pages by keyword and create the PageRank algorithm. Note - they create Algorithm to search and rank web pages. This algorithm apparently proved to be particularly successful because a few years later Google is now synonymous with web search. It has remained so ever since.
Parallel to the emergence of search engines and their algorithms, almost as quickly there are people who try to outsmart them and manipulate these algorithms in their favor in order to come out on top in the search engine results with all the resulting benefits.
Thus arises the phenomenon or set of processes called Search engine optimization or SEO in short, which are focused on improving the visibility of a website in search engines.
But back to the algorithm. The main criterion by which a website is ranked is the content. Quality, unique and useful content is the invariable and overriding criterion by which a page or post in the web is ranked. This algorithm or criterion is immutable and does not change because it does not depend on search engines. It depends on what you publish on your site, how relevant it is and what usefulness it brings to users. Search engines only evaluate it. And here come the distortions.
The mass of SEO professionals focus on "lying" and manipulating the search engine algorithm to benefit their clients. Quite a few have the knowledge and talent and do it successfully. But what does this lead to? When an algorithm is compromised due to the critical mass of manipulation accumulated by SEO gurus, Google and other search engines change their ranking algorithms. As a consequence, many websites "hang". If yesterday you were on the first page of Google, today you are not. You may not be on the 10th either. So what do we do?! We ask our SEO specialist the ubiquitous question "But why did it happen?!" and "Now what do we do?!?".
We start from the beginning - we study the new algorithm(s) in detail and depth and begin the mole work of restoring the damage. And so on until the next time. And until when? Until infinity. Or until we get tired of this merry-go-round and look for the right answers.
Who are they? - we have already mentioned them above. Quality, Unique and Useful Content. This is the unchanging criterion, the foundation, the stone on which we build our website. Let's look through the eyes of the user. Remember one thing - you are not selling products and services to search engine bots. You are selling products and services to live people.
Another thing to pay attention to:
- Current and modern look - 60% of the traffic comes from mobile devices. The site must be optimized for mobile devices.
- Speed of loading - one of the primary factors for a good ranking. To this end, the site must always be maintained in good health and condition.
- Internal optimization:
- Keywords;
- Appropriate meta titles;
- Appropriate meta descriptions;
- Friendly URLs; - External links or link building.
If we meet the above criteria and comply within reasonable limits with the recommendations that search engines give us on the content, our site will inevitably win a decent position in the search engine rankings.
Will we conquer the first page of Google? Ultimately, it's up to us and what and how we offer.
